LIQUOR LICENSING & THE GOOD NEIGHBOR COMMITTEE
The Lower Downtown Neighborhood Association’s (LoDoNA) Good Neighbor Committee is the vehicle through which LoDoNA represents the area in liquor licensing and related matters. The Committee is appointed annually by the LoDoNA Board and meets monthly to consider current issues. The GNC consists of 14 members, several of whom have been on the Committee for many years.
The goal of the Committee is to see that the interests of residents in having vibrant and diverse entertainment opportunities in the neighborhood are not undermined by activities that are disruptive, threatening or dangerous. The Committee strives to maintain the fine balance between our interests in having a fun place and interesting community and our desire to feel safe and secure. The principal way this is done is when Good Neighbor Committee members meet with people planning to open new establishments in LoDo to discuss the owner's plans and any neighborhood concerns about them. In most cases, an agreement is reached to assure that the new establishment will be a positive addition to the neighborhood.
In addition to being involved in initial applications and occasional problems relating to ongoing operations, we are frequently engaged in efforts to come up with systemic solutions to bar/restaurant issues which, if left unaddressed, could have negative consequences for the community.
Anyone having liquor related questions, concerns or suggestions, as well as anyone interested in serving on the Committee, is encouraged to contact a Committee member.
